Is it okay to skip the save-the-date cards?

My short answer for if you can skip save-the-date cards is absolutely! Yes!

Going ahead and skipping those save-the-date cards can save you some money. The other day a relative told me over the phone that that receiving save-the-date cards confuses her; she would rather just get one invitation to events.

I could see that since she is a senior and is not really the personality to  love partying...she is very much a homebody. However; she gets invited to so many events! Save-the-date cards do not confuse or annoy me at all...they are just not a must-have in my opinion.

Think about it. Years and years ago people just probably sent an invite by postal mail and you heard about the upcoming weddings via word of mouth or newspapers. Now sending save-the-dates are pretty common but certainly not a requirement. Especially when trying to cut wedding planning costs.

They totally remind me of gender reveal and baby sprinkle parties that are quite popular in my area. People are not just doing baby showers anymore. I love an excuse to party, take photos or have keepsakes and I think a plus to having save-the-dates is that you can keep copies for memory boxes or scrapbooks.

You do not need a professional photo session for your cards if you choose to get them ordered. Maybe just use a photo you already have or none at all. I love the magnet save-the-dates; a family friend sent my mom one and I thought it was cute!

I totally love the idea of having save-the-date cards but you can save money on them by not doing a photo session for an image on the card and by also only sending them to certain out of town guests perhaps. Another idea is using cheaper printing options such as Zazzle or VisaPrint.
